Rain will increase Monday evening and stay steady past midnight in Northern California, according to our weather team.
There will be a narrow band of rain moving from Lake Tahoe down the mountain into Sacramento County. Areas north and south will not see much, but in the rain zone the Valley could see between a 0.25-0.5 inches.
Rain in the Valley should be gone by sunrise, but more widely scattered showers will pop up in the mountains through Tuesday afternoon.
As of 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, traffic is flowing in the Sierra, and there are no chain controls as scattered showers continue.
Traffic on westbound Interstate 80 at Baxter was temporarily held Monday evening after a big rig crash, but the roadway has since reopened.
Dry and much warmer weather will move in the rest of the week with the potential for 90-degree temperatures by the weekend.
Sacramento is in the upper 50s right now. Our forecast has temperatures close to 40° warmer *next* Monday.
Sacramento's average 1st 90 is 5/10 at Executive Airport. So this'll be right on schedule.
