Start with the resort experience
If your main goal is an easy all-inclusive stay, compare the actual resorts first rather than choosing a country from a headline. Punta Cana has a large concentration of resort properties, while Jamaica has resort areas including Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios. Each area creates a different airport-transfer and activity plan.
Think about how much you want to leave the resort
Travelers who want beach time plus food, music, waterfalls, local tours or multiple regions may prefer a plan that leaves room for exploring. Travelers who mainly want a pool, beach, spa and organized resort activities may care more about the property itself than the destination label.
Compare the airport-to-hotel leg
For Jamaica, confirm whether your itinerary uses Montego Bay (MBJ) or Kingston (KIN) and how that airport fits the resort area. For Punta Cana, confirm PUJ and the exact resort address. Ground transportation can change the total convenience and cost of a trip even when the airfare looks similar.
Budget the whole vacation
Compare airfare, hotel or resort price, baggage, airport transfers, activities, meals not included by the property and transportation away from the resort. The cheaper flight is not automatically the cheaper trip.
Who should lean which way?
- Lean Jamaica: you want several distinct resort regions, island culture and more variety in how you structure the trip.
- Lean Punta Cana: you want to focus heavily on the resort experience and prefer a simple airport-to-resort plan.
