The Adora Magic City sailed on a three-day journey with no port stops, turning the ship itself into the destination.
China’s cruise industry reached a new milestone on Saturday when the Adora Magic City, the country’s first domestically built large cruise ship, departed from Shanghai on its first-ever cruise-to-nowhere journey. The three-day, two-night voyage left from Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal and returned to the same port early Monday without visiting any destinations along the way.
The sailing introduces a new travel model in China that focuses on the onboard experience rather than shore excursions, turning the vessel itself into the main attraction.
The voyage marked the debut of China’s first cruise-to-nowhere product. Instead of calling at foreign ports or domestic destinations, the ship remains at sea throughout the journey. Passengers spend the entire trip enjoying the ship’s facilities, entertainment, dining, and leisure activities while cruising on the open ocean before returning to Shanghai.
The launch comes as China’s cruise sector records strong momentum. Industry figures show that total cruise passenger throughput across the country increased by 25.3 percent in 2025 compared with the previous year.
