Hertz Uber
Hertz and Uber have launched a new fleet partnership that will support autonomous robotaxi services and driver-led ride operations in key US cities, marking a major expansion of their long-running relationship.
Hertz said its affiliated operating company, Oro Mobility, will provide fleet management services for Uber’s robotaxi programme and driver-led operations. The companies said robotaxi services are expected to begin in the San Francisco Bay Area later in 2026, with wider expansion under review for 2027.
Oro Mobility was created by Hertz to deliver fleet management solutions as transport shifts from privately owned cars to commercially operated fleets. The company said it will focus on large-scale logistics, maintenance, charging, repairs and day-to-day operations.
Under the autonomous vehicle agreement, Oro will support Uber’s fleet of Lucid vehicles equipped with Nuro autonomous driving technology. Services will include charging, maintenance, repairs, cleaning and depot staffing.
Hertz and Uber also said Oro will operate driver-led fleet services on the Uber platform using vehicles managed by Oro-employed drivers. The companies said the model is designed to help Uber meet rising rider demand while maintaining service quality.
Following a pilot programme in Atlanta in 2025, Oro is now active on the Uber platform in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Northern New Jersey is expected to launch later this spring.
“Hertz has spent over a century mastering complex fleet operations at scale, and Oro is how we put that expertise to work in the next era of mobility,” said Gil West, CEO at Hertz.
“This partnership with Uber establishes Oro as an integrated solution that connects demand with scalable fleet management services. Through this work, we’re deepening our capabilities across diverse mobility use cases, and positioning Hertz to play a significant role as the industry evolves,” said Gil West.
“Partnering with Hertz’s Oro Mobility will help us continue to bring the best autonomous technology onto the Uber platform and accelerate the transition to a hybrid network in which both driver-led and autonomous rideshare operations can scale and serve communities reliably and efficiently,” said Andrew Macdonald, President and COO of Uber.
“By combining Uber’s global platform and marketplace leadership with Oro’s dedicated fleet management expertise, we are well-equipped to meet increasing rideshare demand and deliver a seamless, high-quality rider experience across the entire mobility ecosystem,” said Andrew Macdonald.
The announcement builds on the companies’ existing rideshare rental partnership, through which Hertz operates one of the world’s largest rideshare rental fleets. Hertz said Oro forms part of its wider strategy to diversify beyond its traditional car rental business.
