AUSTIN, Texas – Airports saw cancelations and delays across Texas due to wintry weather conditions on Tuesday.
The backstory:
According to FlightAware, the Austin Bergstrom International Airport canceled around 70 flights and had even more flights stalled.
"There's been times today where it got delayed and was back on time," said Kelli Hodges, flying from Austin to Las Vegas.
"I had a message from Southwest Airlines saying that this flight might have some issues, but it has not," said Tim Mashburn, flying to Tacoma from Austin. "The last time I checked, which was a half hour ago, it was on time."
Many people who live along I-10 enjoyed the snow from the comfort of their homes, taking the advice of officials to not get on the roads. But some did, causing backups.
ABIA encountered most of its travel troubles earlier in the day and had to suspend its parking trams for several hours due to the icy conditions.
However, other cities, like Houston, were forced to ground their aircraft altogether. Planes did not fly in or out of Hobby and Bush on Tuesday, messing up plans for passengers on more than 1,200 flights.
In North Texas, nearly 250 flights were suspended between DFW and Dallas Love Field.
"I had been monitoring to see if there were any cancelations for my particular flight," said Eliza Clark, flying to Dallas from Austin.
By late Tuesday afternoon in Austin, the weather started to work in favor of travelers.
"I think I got lucky," said Hodges. "Honestly, I think if I would have booked my flight earlier, I would not be going."
Flight operations will resume in Houston on Wednesday morning.
