It is hard to be hungry or bored on an Oceania Cruises voyage. The only challenge is navigating the endless feasting if you go solo.

On a four-night showcase cruise on Oceania’s latest vessel, Allura, I join a group of about 700 media and trade personnel sailing from Italy’s northwestern city of Genoa to northeastern Trieste, with a stop in Split, Croatia.

Oceania Cruises is a subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line, which also owns Norwegian Cruise Line and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Allura is Oceania Cruises’ eighth ship, and second under its Allura class, following the launch of Oceania Vista in May 2023.

The 804-foot (245-metre), 1,200-guest Allura has 12 dining venues, including four speciality restaurants. It also has one of the highest staff-to-guest ratios for a luxury liner – two staff for every three guests – with half its crew dedicated to culinary operations.

Luxurious balcony rooms start from 291 sq ft (27 square metres) for a Verandah Stateroom to 2,400 sq ft for the Owner’s Suite. Oceania recently revamped the interiors of its ships, cladding them in a neutral Parisian-chic palette, swapping out bathtubs for spacious showers in most rooms except the upper-category suites and providing new Aquamar-brand toiletries.
