American Express Travel began selling vacation packages — initially sourced from Travelocity, now owned by Expedia — in 2004. They lost their luster as a momentous value-add to card members.
American Express Travel will stop selling flight and hotel packages as of July 31, according to a notice on its website. These bundled deals, which have long been powered by Expedia, will no longer be available — though card members will still be able to book flights and hotels separately.
American Express Travel began offering packages through Travelocity (now owned by Expedia) more than 20 years ago.

American Express Travel will discontinue flight and hotel package deals on July 31, a move driven by efforts to overhaul its website for a more seamless booking experience and because card members were missing out on certain benefits when booking packages. The discontinuation, which involves deals powered by Expedia, is expected to have little business impact as few customers used the packages, and the partnership between American Express Travel and Expedia remains unaffected.
