GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — If you’re thinking to head out on the highway… looking for adventure this summer, you don’t have to go far to find the best destination in the U.S.
The personal finance website WalletHub has ranked Minnesota as the number one spot for road trips.
Minnesota ranks first overall in best road-tripping destination, based on results from 32 key metrics ranging from costs, safety and activities.
New York, Ohio, Utah and Louisiana rounded out the top five.
Finishing on the bottom of the list are Montana, Vermont, Rhode Island and Connecticut, with Delaware coming in dead last.
Wisconsin finished number 11, Iowa 20th, North Dakota 37th and South Dakota 32nd.
Minnesota has the “fourth-highest spending per capita on parks and recreation. In addition, Minnesota has the third-most fairs and festivals per capita during the summer, so there’s always something unique to check out,” according to the study.
WalletHub creates this annual summer list by ranking each state in several categories, such as gas prices, the average cost of car repairs, access to scenic byways, vacation rentals per capita and the price of camping.
According to their data, nearly 75% of American adults plan to take a road trip, with around 33% planning to travel more than 250 miles from home.
