Boat sinks in Vembanad
A boat heading to Punnamada for the race sank in Vembanad Lake following heavy rain and strong winds. Naduvileparambil Chundan of Kumarakom’s Emmanuel Boat Club sank in the ‘Chithirakayal’ area of the Vembanad Lake due to strong winds and rain. No casualties have been reported, but the oarsmen stated that their request for help was not heeded by the Nehru Trophy organisers. They also lost many of their paddles in the incident.
Spectators, be prepared for a long walk
Boat race spectators will easily cover 10,000 steps and get their own set of ‘workouts’ along with the rowers today, as the parking spots are located around 5 km away from the event venue. Moreover, there are also some new parking rules and traffic restrictions in place. Read more here.
