A new travel ban has been ordered by the Trump administration, banning immigration from certain countries across the world, mostly in Africa and the Middle East, with the administration citing "security concerns."
WASHINGTON – Just as the summer travel season gets into full swing, the U.S. State Department has raised its travel advisory for the Dominican Republic in response to ongoing crime in the area.

On a scale of 1-4, a Level 2 advisory means visitors should "Be aware of increased risks to safety and security. Specific risks are described in the Travel Advisory," according to the department's website.

"Violent crime is a concern in the Dominican Republic despite more police presence in areas often visited by tourists," the department added. "Do not display wealth and be wary of meeting individuals from online in secluded locations."
"Criminals are rarely caught and prosecuted."
The department added that robbery, homicide and sexual assault are prevalent in the country.
