Dominica Is Getting a Second Nonstop Flight From New York — Just in Time for Winter

United Airlines is expanding its winter schedule with a slate of new routes across the Americas, including added service to Honduras and Guatemala.
Beginning Jan. 6, United will launch three new weekly flights between Houston and Guatemala City, along with three new weekly flights between Houston and San Salvador. The carrier is also adding a new weekly flight between Houston and San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
The expansion comes as United boosts its network across 15 U.S. cities, with additional daily roundtrip flights to destinations like Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Miami, and Atlanta. New routes will also connect Newark/New York with Columbia, South Carolina, and Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The move is aimed at filling the potential void from competitor Spirit Airlines’ bankruptcy proceedings.
“If Spirit suddenly goes out of business it will be incredibly disruptive, so we’re adding these flights to give their customers other options if they want or need them,” said Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of Global Network Planning and Alliances.
United, the world’s largest airline, connects passengers to more than 360 destinations globally, including 75 served by no other U.S. airline. The company operates more than 4,000 domestic flights each day. With the expanded schedule, United will now operate 45 flights daily to Orlando, 30 to Fort Lauderdale, and 43 to Las Vegas.
San Pedro Sula in particular has been seeing strong airlift growth in the last few years.

Coral gardens, schools of tropical fish, sea turtles drifting by — snorkeling calls to the adventurer in all of us. Yes, you can snorkel at just about […]
The British Virgin Islands are made for sailing. You feel it the moment you step on board — the breeze, the turquoise water, the sight of islands lined up in the distance like stepping stones across the Caribbean. When I set out on a Moorings yacht charter, I wasn’t just booking a trip. I was […]

This short video is from my first visit to one of Dominica’s spectacular waterfalls. There are islands where nature murmurs, and then there’s Dominica — a place where it roars. Here, the earth feels alive beneath your feet, its mountains wrapped in rainforest, its valleys carved by rivers, its cliffs spilling into an endless ocean. […]
