TSA warns travelers not to wear this days before Christmas – lehighvalleylive

If you’re flying over the holidays, leave those sparkly Christmas sweaters at home.
That’s the latest message from the TSA to travelers going through security at airports this holiday season.
“The body scanners don’t love sparkles. We don’t want to dull your holiday shine but we don’t recommend wearing your sparkly holiday sweater to the airport,” the TSA said in a Facebook post.
Here’s why you should leave the festive sweaters at home or in your luggage.
The TSA scanners at security are very sensitive to anything resembling metal.
This includes sequins, metallic thread and even glitter found on some types of clothing.
The scanners the TSA uses at airports employ millimeter wave advanced imaging technology that picks these things up.
Other types of screening include walk-through metal detectors and physical pat-downs if the screening technology finds something that raises a red flag, according to the TSA.
In addition to those festive sweaters, large chains, belts with buckles, underwire bras and even wet or sweat-stained clothing can set off the scanners.
It’s always good to be mindful of what you’re wearing through security.
However, if you want to pack your sweater or belt in carry-on or checked luggage, the TSA says you are good to go.
