Hong Kong’s aviation regulator has tightened requirements for the use of power banks on board aircraft, banning passengers from using them to charge any portable electronic devices or recharge such batteries during flights from April 7.
Nevertheless, the decision does not prohibit air travel with power banks
Passengers are still allowed to travel with external batteries and store them in bags under the seat or in seat back pockets, with some restrictions, according to aviation insiders.
Reasons for the innovation
The Civil Aviation Department expressed serious concern on Monday about recent safety incidents involving passengers using lithium external batteries on board aircraft.
