Travel Advisory issued for several northeast Indiana counties Monday – 21Alive

NORTHEAST INDIANA (WPTA) – A Travel Advisory has been issued for several northeast Indiana counties on Monday afternoon, according to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
At the time of this report, Advisories have been issued for Adams, Allen, DeKalb, LaGrange, Elkhart and Kosciusko counties.
The Travel Advisory is the lowest level of local travel advisory, which means roadways have become snow-covered, slick, and hazardous.
You can view the department’s travel advisory map, which is updated using information provided by county emergency management agencies, here.
Allen County Office of Emergency Management Director Bernie Beier says the alert was issued as area law enforcement agencies are currently responding to over 23 separate crashes. Most of which have been reported on local roadways, but as evening commutes begin, Beier says crashes are now also happening on area highways.

Beier says motorists are “driving too fast for existing conditions”, and says continued snowfall, high winds, and reduced visibility are combining to make travel hazardous in many areas.
Again, Beier encouraged drivers to slow down, give each other extra room, and use caution when driving in intersections, on bridges, and on highway ramps where turns and merges could be slick.
