Travel around Western New York will be very slow this morning due to heavy Lake Effect snow.
Much of this snow so far from this round of Lake Effect snow has stayed in the Southtowns and the Southern Tier with several inches of snow falling overnight.
Snowplows have been on the roads clearing the snow overnight but traffic will still be much slower than normal this morning.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz has issued travel advisories for much of Western New York, due to the snow covered roads.
The plows clearing the roads can't use salt due to the cold temperatures. Salt is usually only effective in temperatures of 15 degrees and warmer.
Much of Western New York is dealing with temperatures in the single digits.
If you do have to be out and about today, make sure to give yourself plenty of time to reach your destibnation. Also make sure you give the snowplows plenty of space when they are clearing the roads around you.
More snow is expected in the Southtowns this morning before that lake effect snow band starts moving more north towards the City of Buffalo and the Northtowns later this afternoon. Travel this afternoon could also be impacted by the snow and cold.
The good news is that we will see a bit of a warmup heading our way later this week.
