With fall in full swing, “leaf peepers” are once again hitting the roads to chase the season’s most stunning colors. According to Google Trends, U.S. searches for “leaf peeping” have increased by more than 40 percent in just the past week, and a new study by online gaming site CanadaCasino has revealed where they’re headed.

By analyzing Google search data encompassing well-known fall locations during peak foliage months, CanadaCasino identified the most popular U.S. fall foliage destinations this year. Topping the list is Niagara Falls, New York, with more than one million Google searches.

Niagara Falls has long been a must-visit destination, and fall is arguably the best time to visit, as the cool waterfall mist rises against a backdrop of orange, gold, and crimson. Horseshoe Falls, the tallest and most dramatic of the three falls, lies mostly on the Canadian side, while American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are located in the U.S. From the Observation Tower in Niagara Falls State Park in New York, visitors can take in the full view, then cross the Rainbow Bridge into Canada for another exciting vantage point.

Visitors can board the Maid of the Mist tour boat on the U.S. side or the Hornblower cruise from Canada to experience the mist and echoing thunder of the falls up close. The Journey Behind the Falls tunnel offers another adventure, leading through carved rock directly behind the roaring cascade. Thrill-seekers can also soar above the falls on a helicopter tour or take flight virtually with the new “Niagara Takes Flight: A Soaring Adventure” experience.

After exploring the falls, consider a trip along Canada’s scenic Niagara Parkway, often called “the prettiest Sunday drive in the world.” Alternatively, nearby Buffalo, New York, has vibrant hiking trails, farm-to-table bistros, craft breweries, and fall festivals that capture the spirit of the season.

Second on the list is Aspen, Colorado, with approximately 550,000 Google searches. Glacier National Park secured third, while Acadia and Rocky Mountain National Parks tied for fourth. Two scenic destinations in Virginia, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoah National Park, shared the fifth position.
