The FBI has issued advisories for these popular international spring break destinations
Spring break is almost here, which means sun and sand, but also a fresh round of travel warnings. If you’re heading abroad, federal agencies want you to stay alert and take safety precautions.
The FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office and the U.S. State Department have issued new travel advisories for popular international Spring Break destinations like Cancún, Punta Cana and Jamaica. Mexico remains a top concern, with warnings against travel to Mazatlán, Mexicali Valley, Acapulco and six states due to crime and kidnappings. Even Baja California hotspots like Tijuana, Rosarito and Ensenada come with a “reconsider travel” warning.
Officials are urging travelers to avoid certain areas in Jamaica as well, due to crime. Costa Rica and Cuba are also under advisories for increased caution. And if you’re heading to Turks and Caicos, be aware: A new Level 2 travel warning cites crime concerns, and the island’s strict gun laws could mean jail time for anyone caught with firearms or even stray bullets in their luggage.
