Thanksgiving Weather Outlook: Wintry weather returns to Western New York – WKBW

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Strong winds, cold temperatures, and lake effect snow for your Thanksgiving.
A Lake Effect Snow Warning through 1 a.m. Saturday for Southern Erie, Wyoming, Chautauqua, Allegany and Cattaraugus Counties. Winds will gust near 45 miles per hour, and snow totals will be in the 10- to 20-inch range by Saturday morning.
A Wind Advisory from noon Wednesday through 1 a.m. Friday for Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, and Chautauqua Counties. Winds will gust 40 to 50 miles per hour.
A lake effect band will settle south of Buffalo on Thursday with several inches of accumulation from the Boston Hills to the Chautauqua Ridge.
The winds will be very strong during this time period, with gusts near 50 miles per hour. These strong winds will create hazardous travel conditions with blowing and drifting snow across the Southern Tier. Whiteouts and power outages are also possible. Travel in the lake bands south of Buffalo will be difficult.
The winds will become more northwesterly overnight through Friday, creating multiple bands of lake effect snow off Lake Erie. Some snow will develop north of Buffalo off of Lake Ontario as well. It will stay breezy on Friday with winds gusting near 40 miles per hour.
