Skip a trip to the tip with our expanded Mega Skip Days – Wandsworth Borough Council

Published: Tuesday, April 29, 2025

Wandsworth’s incredibly popular Mega Skip Days have expanded over the past few months to cover more of the borough and with triple skips at the busiest sites so they can stay open longer.
Mega Skip Days take place twice a month, providing an easy and convenient way to dispose of bulky waste. They now reach new neighbourhoods and housing estates, ensuring even more people can make use of them.
As a listening Council, we have added additional skips at the most popular locations, including Church Lane, Putney Park Lane, and Acanthus Road to prevent them from getting full too early.
With the help of residents and our Cleaner Borough Plan, we have already recycled over 5,000 tonnes of extra recycling since June 2024, including general recycling, food waste, bulky waste, Mega Skip waste and real Christmas trees. The improvements have generated cost savings of £1.2million, which is being reinvested into making streets cleaner.
Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We have collected hundreds of tonnes of bulky waste at our Mega Skip Days over the past year, almost double compared to the previous year.
“That shows just how popular this service is, and we’re delighted to have expanded it even further to reach even more residents, while maintaining the lowest Council Tax in the country.
“Please check when the Mega Skip is coming to your local area and pay a visit. If it’s still not convenient for you, remember to book one of your free bulky waste collections instead and we’ll come to your home and pick it up.”
Alongside the expansion of the Mega Skip Days, every household now gets two free bulky waste collections a year, meaning it has never been easier to dispose of your bulky waste. This new offer has been regarded as “extremely easy and effective” and “a completely smooth operation” by local residents.

You may also want to consider donating or selling your items if they are in good condition. Items you no longer need or want could be repaired, reused or shared to help the community and reduce waste.
The next Mega Skip Day is on Saturday 17 May. The Mega Skips will be in the following places:
The skips are open to residents of the London Borough of Wandsworth only. Proof of address may be required on the day.
