U.S. bookings are also up 14.98 percent, averaging 3.6 more reservations per property
Hotel bookings for Easter 2025 are up 16.8 percent from the same period last year, with data from nine markets showing stronger demand, earlier bookings, and increased international travel, according to SiteMinder.

HOTEL BOOKINGS FOR Easter 2025 are up 16.8 percent from the same period last year, according to SiteMinder, a hotel distribution and revenue platform. The data, comparing bookings at the same properties across nine markets 30 days before Easter in 2024 and 2025, shows stronger demand, earlier bookings and growing interest in international travel.
These global trends are mirrored in the U.S., where SiteMinder data showed a 14.98 percent rise in Easter weekend bookings as of March 18—an average of 3.6 more reservations per property compared to the same period in 2024.
“With Easter falling later this year than in 2024, we’re not just seeing stronger travel demand—we’re seeing travelers rethink how they plan,” said James Bishop, SiteMinder's vice president for ecosystem and strategic partnerships. “Earlier bookings and a rise in international travel are shaping this year’s trends, with the later holiday creating more favorable conditions in many regions. But flexibility remains key—historically, domestic travelers tend to book closer to arrival, meaning the final guest mix and pricing dynamics could still evolve in the coming weeks.”
SiteMinder recently found that hotel websites led all booking sources in 2024 revenue per booking, averaging $519—60 percent higher than other channels.
Global booking lead times have risen 9.63 percent, from 87 days in 2024 to 96 days in 2025, as traveler confidence remains strong, the report said. In the U.S., lead times are up 13.43 percent to 100.99 days, outperforming the global average.
While booking volumes and lead times are up, the average stay for Easter 2025 has dipped 3.43 percent globally—from 2.33 to 2.25 days—as traveler origins shift. In the U.S., the trend is similar, with stay length down 3.86 percent to 2.24 days from 2.33 in 2024.
Compared to completed stays in Easter 2024, all analyzed markets, except Australia, are seeing a higher share of international guests for 2025. In the U.S., international bookings have risen to 41.40 percent of all reservations, up from 23.94 percent last year.
The data shows mixed ADR trends across markets. Two-thirds of analyzed destinations report year-over-year growth for the Easter weekend, led by Portugal with a 13.7 percent increase and Spain with nearly 8 percent. In contrast, U.S. hotel ADR is down 3.41 percent, from $328.23 to $317.05. Mexico is seeing an 11 percent drop, while the United Kingdom is down 2 percent.
Bishop said stronger Easter weekend demand at U.S. properties is encouraging, driven by earlier bookings and more international travelers.
“While this momentum reflects a confident travel market, ADR remains a challenge not just in the U.S. but across the region," he said. "To offset this, hoteliers should make full use of revenue management technology, ensuring their pricing and distribution strategies are dynamic, effective, and market-informed.”
SiteMinder earlier reported a 22 percent rise in U.S. Christmas hotel bookings for Dec. 21-25, driven by international bookings, which grew from 28 to 32 percent.

AMERICANS ARE TRAVELING more in 2025 than in the past five years despite financial pressures and a shifting travel landscape, according to a new MMGY study. Travelers plan to spend 5,138 dollars and take 4.2 vacations in the next 12 months, the highest in five years.
MMGY’s Portrait of American Travelers study of 4,500 leisure travelers highlights key U.S. travel trends, including demand for meaningful experiences, AI and sustainability in trip planning.
“Travel is no longer just a luxury—it’s an essential part of Americans’ lives and an investment in well-being, connection, and personal fulfillment,” said Simon Moriarty, MMGY Travel Intelligence's vice president for syndicated research. “Despite rising costs, travelers are prioritizing meaningful experiences, using technology for smarter planning, and seeking sustainable options that align with their values. The future of travel is about balancing tradition with innovation, and the industry must evolve to meet these expectations.”
The study found that environmental concerns influence travel decisions, with travelers preferring eco-friendly options at no added cost. Off-season travel is emerging as a sustainability strategy, easing environmental strain and providing budget-friendly options. Meanwhile, 58 percent of travelers cite overtourism concerns as a factor in their destination choices for the next five to ten years.
Hawaii, Florida and California remain popular, but extreme weather has dampened interest in some areas. Meanwhile, Washington, D.C., has gained popularity, likely driven by increased media attention after the presidential election.
More travelers are stretching their budgets despite affordability concerns, the report said. Many are opting for off-season travel and alternative accommodations like short-term rentals to maximize value without sacrificing quality.
Generational differences in travel planning are growing. Gen Z and Millennials rely on AI tools and social media influencers for inspiration and itineraries, while Boomers prefer travel agents and review websites. AI-driven travel assistance, from itinerary planning to price comparisons, is gaining traction, with usage rising to 34 percent from 31 percent in early 2024.
International travel is rebounding, with 35 percent of U.S. travelers planning a trip abroad in the next six months. Europe, the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico and Asia remain top destinations, with Boomers favoring Europe and younger travelers drawn to Asia for affordability and adventure.
MMGY’s Portrait of American Travelers Winter Edition found that Americans plan more travel in 2025, with average vacation budgets rising to $5,051, trips increasing to 4.1 per person, and nearly 80 percent of U.S. adults expecting to vacation in the next 12 months, up 7 percent from winter 2023.

WYNDHAM HOTELS & RESORTS launched "Recharge with Wyndham", a promotion program aimed at supporting around 4 million truck drivers in the U.S. and Canada while they take mandated rests. The initiative, rolled out on March 27, offers double Wyndham Rewards points, upgraded status, and savings through a Hotels4Truckers partnership with verified trucker-friendly parking.
The program supports truckers in both countries during mandatory 34- or 36-hour rest periods to reset weekly driving limits, Wyndham said in a statement.
“Truckers are an essential part of the workforce, and we know their time is valuable, both on the road and off,” said Angie Gadwood, Wyndham’s senior vice president for global sales. “With the launch of Recharge with Wyndham, we’re helping drivers put their safety and rest first while making it easier than ever to build up points toward their next free stay—whether that’s a weekend away with the family or an overnight pit stop as they ready for the journey ahead.”
Drivers or their companies need a negotiated rate with Wyndham to access Recharge with Wyndham benefits, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Wyndham's partnership with Hotels4Truckers allows U.S. and Canadian truckers to book through its website or app and save 15 percent on a qualified stay for a limited time.
“After a long day on the road, it’s time to refuel more than just the truck,” said Dan Fuller, Hotels4Truckers president and founder. “With Wyndham, Hotels4Truckers members can recharge with a comfortable place to stay that doesn’t break the bank. Even better? With points, status, parking, easy bookings, and more, their stays go further, making life on the road easier and their time off more rewarding.”
Additionally, Hotels4Truckers lets drivers search and book more than 2,000 Wyndham hotels with trucker-friendly parking for rigs up to 75 feet, the statement said. Drivers can also use their Recharge with Wyndham benefits when booking.
Wyndham recently launched the Wyndham Rewards Debit Card, letting users earn points on purchases and redeem them for free nights.
WYNDHAM HOTELS & RESORTS launched the Wyndham Rewards Debit Card, which it says is the first from a U.S. hospitality brand for younger travelers and those avoiding credit. The debit card lets users earn Wyndham Rewards points on transactions including gas, groceries, dining and retail, which can be redeemed for free nights at more 60,000 hotels, vacation club resorts and rentals worldwide.
Cardholders get Wyndham Rewards Gold membership, booking discounts and an annual point bonus, Wyndham said in a statement.
“Research continues to show a large number of travelers, particularly younger consumers such as Gen Z, prefer debit cards as their primary method of payment,” said Charmaine Taylor, Wyndham’s senior vice president for strategic and financial partnerships. “Unfortunately, that means many have been left on the sidelines when it comes to earning free hotel nights and other travel rewards. With the Wyndham Rewards Debit Card, that’s no longer the case. Now anyone and everyone can earn points on their day-to-day purchases and, in turn, enjoy meaningful rewards.”
The Wyndham Rewards Debit Card is issued by Sunrise Banks N.A., with Galileo Financial Technologies as the platform and Mastercard as the payments network.
A 2023 EY study found nearly 70 percent of Gen Z consumers use debit cards weekly, the statement said. PMG research shows 65 percent plan to spend more on travel in 2025, and nearly 60 percent see loyalty programs as essential for booking.
Derek White, CEO of Galileo Financial Technologies, said debit users are often overlooked by traditional rewards programs, making this card a first in hospitality.
“What’s more, with the help of Galileo, Wyndham was able to launch its offering in just a few months,” White said. “By bringing together card issuing, processing, Cyberbank Digital, and program management, brands can launch quickly and efficiently, delivering innovative financial products that strengthen customer relationships and drive revenue.”
Wyndham opened a record 68,700 rooms in 2024, including 28,000 in the U.S., driving 4 percent year-over-year growth, while its global pipeline expanded 5 percent to 2,100 hotels and 252,000 rooms.
TRADE TENSIONS BETWEEN the U.S. and Canada are beginning to impact the U.S. travel and tourism industry as Canadians cut back on trips. The number of Canadians driving to the U.S. fell 23 percent in February from a year earlier, marking the second straight monthly decline and only the second since March 2021, according to Statistics Canada.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing 25 percent tariffs on nearly all Canadian and Mexican goods on Feb. 1, which took effect on March 4. He also repeatedly called for making Canada the 51st state.
The decline in Canadian tourists followed former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s call to reconsider U.S. travel and support domestic tourism. Trudeau, who was succeeded by Mark Carney on March 14, made the remarks in response to Trump’s tariffs.
"The drop in Canadian visits is closely tied to the U.S. tariffs imposed on Feb. 1," said Rachel J.C. Fu, director of the University of Florida’s Eric Friedheim Tourism Institute, in a Business Insider report.
"The 25 percent tariffs likely increased economic tension between the two countries, influencing Canadian consumer sentiment and travel choices," she added, noting that Trudeau’s comments further discouraged U.S. travel.
Flight Centre Travel Group reported a 40 percent drop in Canadian leisure bookings to the U.S. in February year-over-year.
"Canadians are eager to travel but are increasingly shifting to destinations outside the U.S.," said Amra Durakovic, a spokesperson for Flight Centre Travel Group Canada, according to Business Insider.
A survey by Leger, a Canadian market research firm, suggests Trudeau’s message is resonating. Nearly half of respondents said they were less likely to visit the U.S. this year, while six in 10 planned to vacation in Canada instead.
The U.S. Travel Association estimates a 10 percent decline in Canadian visitors could cost $2.1 billion and 14,000 jobs, hitting top destinations like Florida, California, Nevada, New York, and Texas the hardest.
"The U.S. travel and tourism industry is projected to generate $223.64 billion in 2025, but losses could exceed current estimates if tensions persist," said Adam Sacks, president of Tourism Economics, according to Business Insider. "Canada is the U.S.'s top visitor market, so the stakes are high."
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby said the airline adjusted capacity after a sharp drop in Canadian passenger arrivals, according to a Reuters report.
NY hotel slashes prices
A Canadian family canceled its annual New York trip, prompting a hotel to offer steep discounts to win them back.
A Reddit user shared on the “Buy Canadian” subreddit that their family canceled the trip as a show of national pride. The hotel was initially dismissive but later backtracked, trying to persuade them to rebook.
The family had vacationed at Chautauqua Lake, New York, every summer for a week. This year, they canceled, citing "constant attacks on Canada by American leadership."
“We canceled our reservation weeks ago, stating we couldn’t support the attacks on Canada with our dollars,” the Reddit user wrote.
The hotel manager initially responded with an indifferent “Oh well.” But weeks later, the hotel offered a 30 percent discount, followed by an additional offer to accept Canadian dollars at par. “We replied no thanks,” the Reddit user wrote, adding that the discounts suggested the hotel was worried about rising Canadian cancellations.
The post drew praise on the pro-Canada forum, with many supporting the user’s decision.
“It’s such a dismissive response from the hotel, and even worse to follow up with a rebooking offer,” one commenter wrote.
“Canceling and resisting their offers is a big deal—thank you for standing strong!” another added.
Canadian travelers aren’t alone in avoiding the U.S. Bookings from Denmark and Germany fell 27 percent and 15 percent year-over-year, though overall European demand declined just 1 percent, Reuters reported, citing data from travel analytics company ForwardKeys.
Starting April 11, 2025, foreign visitors aged 14 and older must register and provide fingerprints if staying in the U.S. for more than 30 days. Canadians, who typically visit visa-free for up to six months, are not exempt.
The U.S. Travel Association recently warned that the U.S. is unprepared for the 2026 World Cup at SoFi Stadium and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics due to strained air travel systems, visa issues, and aging infrastructure.
