Houston – Spring in Texas isn’t just wildflower season—it’s wine season and Texas Wine Country just doesn’t get enough credit!
Wineries across the state are buzzing with new releases, festivals, and road trip-worthy experiences. If you’re ready to sip your way through the Lone Star State, here are four bottles that capture the spirit of the season from our Wine and Travel TV Contributor Daniela Garrido:
🍷 Messina Hof – Sparkling Sagrantino Rosé | $40
From the Bonarrigo Family Wines collection, this is the first-ever sparkling Sagrantino in Texas. Messina Hof is celebrating its 41st Annual Wine & Roses Festival on April 26 in Bryan, complete with tastings, live music, grape stomping, and more.
🍷 Chapelton Vineyards – Blanc du Bois | $65
Crafted in Washington County, Texas, this bright, crisp white wine is made from a grape that thrives in Texas heat. With 92 points from a California wine competition, Chapelton’s inaugural estate Blanc du Bois pairs beautifully with seafood and citrusy dishes. Bonus: You can stay onsite in a private villa, complete with bikes for vineyard touring.
🍷 Dry Comal Creek – Viognier | $32
This 100% Viognier from Texas High Plains fruit offers aromas of pear and magnolia with layers of tangerine, vanilla, and saffron. Aged in neutral oak for a balanced, medium-bodied profile, it’s a great match for scallops, crab, or creamy cheeses. For an overnight stay, check out nearby Mahalo Haven B&B.
🍷 Flat Creek Estate – Estate Rosé | $35
A Provençal-style dry rosé blending Sangiovese and Muscat Blanc, this Hill Country gem bursts with notes of nectarine, tangerine, and florals. Perfect with citrus-glazed salmon or a spring salad. While you’re in the area, take advantage of the Hill Country Wine & Wildflower Journey—a $65 passport that lets you visit up to 45 wineries now through April 18.
