Snow made travel difficult in the Sierra on Monday.
In the afternoon, multiple spinouts shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 for hours.
One driver told reporter Carolina Estrada, “It was like driving blind.”
Meteorologist Tamara Berg said that snow intensity is expected to ramp up overnight, which could make things difficult for the Tuesday morning commute in the Sierra.
As of Monday night, chain controls were in effect on I-80 between Baxter and the Nevada State Line.
On Highway 50, chains are required between Kyburz and Meyers.
