In response to growing safety concerns, Royal Caribbean has made the difficult decision to cancel all scheduled visits to its private beach destination, Labadee, located in Haiti. The cruise line’s commitment to passenger safety has prompted this precautionary measure, as Haiti continues to face significant political instability and violence, particularly around its capital, Port-au-Prince. These challenges have made it increasingly difficult to guarantee a safe and enjoyable experience for travelers visiting this popular Caribbean port. As a result, Royal Caribbean has suspended all trips to Labadee until at least May 2026. The decision reflects the company’s unwavering focus on maintaining high standards of safety and security for its guests. With this move, Royal Caribbean joins other industry leaders in prioritizing traveler well-being in the face of regional uncertainty, ensuring that guests have reliable, alternative destinations for their Caribbean cruise adventures.
Royal Caribbean prioritizes passenger safety by cancelling visits:
Labadee and the rest of Haiti will no longer be in the itinerary for Royal Caribbean until further notice, as most of the country is undergoing unfortunate issues. Royal Caribbean also has some concerns regarding the safety of its visitors, as they believe going to Labadee will not be ideal at the moment. However, in an attempt to ease visitors, the cruise line will automatically sign them on to some of the other incredible stops.

With Royal Caribbean leading the pack, they have sailed to Labadee for private vacations, but this is no longer the case. Visitors are rather encouraged to reposition themselves to the other amazing vacations spots which the cruise line has in store.
The tourists booked for the excursions have also conveniently eased the burden of the guests, as the payment will be credited to the SeaPass accounts and will not need to be specifically withdrawn. The company has also reinforced the notion that the excursions will not be the highlight of the trip and it is the other ports as well which will be incredible to experience.
The ruthless behavior in Haiti has shifted the political power and the government for the time being hasn’t done anything to stabilize and ease the currents, thus, all cruises which are scheduled till May 2026 will no longer be serving the destination.
Royal Caribbean has refrained from commenting due to the “abundant” caution which the team plans to enforce in the trip.

Safety First: Why Labadee Is Off Limits

Labadee is one of many stops for passengers traveling through Royal Caribbean’s private island. It is well known for its beautiful beaches, gorgeous views, and fun excursions. This includes island visits to Labadee that some tourists do. As a result, the company has had to come up with another plan for the destination due to the rise of gang violence and other concerning security situations in Haiti. The U.S. State Department has categorized Haiti as a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” destination due to the country’s rampant gun violence, carjackings, and kidnappings, each of which pose enormous threats to those looking to visit.
The passengers aboard are the main priority of the cruise line which is why, with the rapid decline of the situations in Haiti, there is no clear answer for when the island can be safely returned to. This cancellation of offsets for visits to the island in 2024 is extremely worrisome, which is why Royal Caribbean is hoping for the best when it comes to future calls.
What Is Next for Royal Caribbean Customers?
To everyone that can’t wait to get to Labadee, don’t panic! Royal Caribbean has come up with backup plans! Here are the alterations for some of the impacted sailings.
- Adventure of the Seas : This vessel will now have one additional Sea Day in place of visiting Labadee. It will also add a stop to Falmouth, Jamaica, having made some adjustments to the timetable.
- Explorer of the Seas : Passengers are now given the privilege of having the entire day in Nassau, Bahamas as well as without a trip to Labadee. This advanced scheduled has the ship arriving to Perfect Day at CocoCay much sooner, and additional time has been allotted for the passengers to explore the private island.
- Freedom of the Seas : This ship will now stop in Grand Turk and the Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic in replacement of Haiti.
- Symphony of the Seas: This ship will now have one additional Sea Day in place of visiting Labadee. This guarantees that the passengers will still have plenty of time to relax in the sun and appreciate the calm, warm ocean.
Even with all the new schedule changes and updates, Royal Caribbean maintains every passengger will delight on every bit of their vaaction. Even if it is just another day spent at sea, all the new updates still allow guests to entertain of new developments such as the Bahamas, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica.
Labadee’s Future: Uncertainty Lingers
The unrest in Haiti continues, and that situation is particularly important to Royal Caribbean. The company has said it wishes to be able to return to Labadee in safety, and has hopes that peace and order return so that this will be possible. For the time being, however, it is the guests’ safety and comfort with the new changes to the itinerary that are thier priority.
In view of the overall increase in disorder in the region, it is possible that other cruise companies may also choose to reassess their routes to Haiti. The safety and welfare of the customers certainly takes piriotity with all companies, and routes may be changed to avoid any possible difficulties.
Impact of Haiti on Caribbean Travel
While many other islands in the Caribbean still have their arms open to tourists, the unrest in Haiti does highlight the difficulties that still exist for the region as a whole. The region’s tourism may have many challenges, but the islands and beaches of the Caribbean are still as beautiful as ever.
Cruise ships go to Cozumel, Grand Turk, the Bahamas, and the adventures in Jamaica to visit new locations. Shipping and cruise companies work to help out with important issues and events in order to help with the situation and offer new vacations that are memorable and safe.
Looking Ahead
Cruise ships are on top of the situation and with the help of tracking systems and great routes, the Caribbean Region never fails to amuse with sun, fun and some rest. Do not worry, the ruins of the classic world will soon be in your view. One of the beauties of the cruise world is that it can help with extra vacations that are memorable and fun. No matter the place, your cruise is just a booking world away.
