Hotel Figuroa, part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, has a great mix of history, style, and value in downtown Los Angeles. I redeemed a free night certificate earned with The World of Hyatt Credit Card to stay at the hotel, and it was a great way to save, as LA hotels can be pricey.
Here’s a look at my October 2025 stay, along with some key information about the property.
Although I love modern hotels with their new and luxurious amenities, I enjoy older properties with interesting histories. Hotel Figueroa has a fascinating history.
The property was initially opened in 1926 as a hostel for women by the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA). It was built as a safe space for solo women travelers, who were prohibited at the time from checking into most hotels without a male chaperone.
In 1928, the property opened floors for men, and in 1930, Hotel Figueroa opened to all genders, like all hotels today.
In the mid-1970s, a Swedish entrepreneur bought the property and converted it to a “Moroccan retreat.” In 2014, the property was purchased by a real estate group that restored the property to its original Spanish Colonial Revival style.
The room featured these traditional revival-style elements, including dark exposed wood beams, rich tones, and contemporary décor. Although the room was a bit on the smaller end, it provided a cozy setting.
Hotel Figueroa is a part of the World of Hyatt loyalty program, so you can redeem World of Hyatt points for stays at the property. As a Category 4 World of Hyatt property, award nights can be booked for 12,000 points per night (off-peak), 15,000 points per night (standard), or 18,000 points per night (peak).
The property can also be booked using a World of Hyatt Category 1 to 4 free night certificate, a major perk of The World of Hyatt Credit Card. Fortunately, you can use the Hyatt Category 1-4 free night certificate up to the maximum allowed category, even in peak season.
The property typically offers rooms for around $225 per night, providing excellent value with the free night certificate. Best of all, if you redeem a World of Hyatt free night certificate, the $35 daily destination fee is waived.

Hotel Figueroa is on Figueroa Street in downtown L.A.’s South Park area, which is home to many entertainment complexes, high-end restaurants, and luxury shopping venues.
The property is within a 10-minute walk of many Los Angeles tourist attractions, including Crypto.com Arena, the Los Angeles Convention Center, Peacock Theater, and the GRAMMY Museum.
It is also within a 10-minute walk of many of Los Angeles’ best hotels, including The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles, JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE, InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, and Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown.
Hotel Figueroa offers guests numerous luxurious amenities, including an outdoor swimming pool, a fully equipped fitness center, a rooftop patio, and over 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
The highlight was the swimming pool, which captured everything that makes California living so iconic.
The hotel also featured a rooftop patio on the second floor, just past the fitness center, offering a great place to relax and enjoy the views. There were numerous lounge chairs on the patio, providing a comfortable spot for relaxation.
A simple concept, but I wish more hotels had relaxing patios like this, as it’s a great way to get fresh air.
Hotel Figueroa features extensive on-site food and beverage options. Deme is the hotel’s upscale restaurant, offering a diverse menu that emphasizes Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant features an extensive menu with specialties such as bluefin tuna and slow-cooked duck shawarma.
Bar Magnolia is the hotel’s lobby bar, serving cocktails and small plates all day. Meanwhile, La Casita is the property’s poolside lounge and cocktail bar. Lastly, Café Fig is open all day with Mediterranean, Southwest, and continental influences.
