Recap: Rush hour crash grinds traffic to a halt on the South Ring – Cork Beo

Traffic was slowed to a halt along sections of the N40 South Ring Road following a crash this evening.
The collision occurred on the eastbound approach to the Bloomfield Interchange, affecting traffic headed towards the tunnel.
This is the second crash along a major commuter route in Cork today. Earlier, three people were brought to the hospital with minor injuries following a two-vehicle collision on the N8 near the Silver Springs Hotel.

TII has reported the incident has been cleared, some delays remain, but traffic will return to normal shortly.
Traffic is still very slow on the approach to the crash location. However, it has returned to normal elsewhere along the N40. Crews are hard at work clearing the scene, and traffic is expected to return to normal shortly.
Emergency traffic management crews have been called in to clear the collision. Motorists are advised to comply with all instructions as they direct traffic in the area.
With rush hour upon us, let's take a look at traffic and travel conditions across Cork.
Google Maps is showing heavy traffic near the interchange.
If traveling between the Kinsale Road Roundabout and Dunkettle Interchange, motorists can expect delays of more than 22 minutes. Westbound traffic is unaffected.
The bulk of the delays are between the Bloomfield Interchange and the Kinsale Road Roundabout, with Douglas worst affected. Traffic between the Bloomfield Interchange and the Jack Lynch Tunnel has slowed as well.
The crash occurred on the eastbound side of the N40, just beyond the Bloomfield Interchange near the turn-off for Carrigaline.
