Amtrak on Wednesday announced it will add a 12th daily round trip to its Pacific Surfliner route between Los Angeles and San Diego, among the busiest state-supported intercity passenger-rail routes in the United States.
Effective June 16, the Pacific Surfliner will operate an additional southbound and northbound train in the evening, Amtrak officials said in a press release. The new southbound train will depart Los Angeles at 4:10 p.m. local time and arrive at San Diego at 7:04 p.m. The northbound train will depart San Diego at 8:10 p.m. and arrive in Los Angeles at 10:57 p.m., giving riders more options for evening travel.
Once the new trip is running, the Pacific Surfliner will offer 12 daily round trips between San Diego and Los Angeles, five daily round trips between San Diego and Goleta and three daily full-corridor round trips between San Diego and San Luis Obispo. The route spans 351 miles through six counties and 29 stations.
The additional round trip is another step toward restoring pre-pandemic service levels, which consisted of 13 daily round trips between Los Angeles and San Diego.
