Traveling to Kansas City for Sunday’s AFC Championship game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs? AAA of Western and Central New York has taken a closer look at flight, hotel and ticket prices for you.
Kickoff for Sunday’s game at Arrowhead Stadium will be at 6:30 p.m. as No. 2 Buffalo takes on defending Super Bowl champions and No. 1 seed Kansas City.
Here’s what to know.
Roundtrip flights from Buffalo or Rochester to Kansas City between Friday, Jan. 24 and Monday, Jan. 27 start at just under $800 as of Sunday night, according to AAA. However, you’ll find cheaper flights to Kansas City out of Syracuse as their roundtrip flights fall just under $400.
Since prices will fluctuate and have already begun to increase since the Bills win, AAA says, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on flights. You can find current prices at AAA.com/Travel or Google Flights.
If you’re OK with a 30-minute drive to Arrowhead Stadium on game day, you’ll have plenty of cheaper hotel options available near Kansas City International Airport as well as in downtown Kansas City, according to AAA, as prices start at $120 per night.
As you get closer to the stadium, though, prices increase — upwards of $300 per night — and room availability dwindles, AAA says. Hotel rates can be found by visiting AAA.com/Travel.
It will take you over 14 hours to drive from Highmark Stadium in Buffalo to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. For dedicated fans who want to make the almost 970-mile trip by car, it could cost you around $100 in gas — if you have a vehicle that averages around 30 miles-per-gallon — to get there, AAA says.
Gas prices can be calculated at fueleconomy.gov/trip and you can plan out your route by using AAA’s TripTik Travel Planner.
A presale has started for game day tickets through Ticketmaster and according to the Ticketmaster website, it’s currently only open for Jackson County residents with a passcode.
The cheapest tickets are currently listed at $320 on StubHub and $294 on Vivid Seats, both of which could include additional fees, $457 on SeatGeek, including fees, and $411 on TickPick, including fees. Those prices could change quickly as tickets are sold.
You can also purchase tickets through AAA at AAA.com/Tickets.
While Sunday’s AFC Championship game will be your Kansas City trip’s main focus, you may also want to explore the city a bit more while you’re there.
Some options include a visit to the National WWI Museum and Memorial, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art or SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium. And if you’re looking to sample some Kansas City-style barbecue, you could take a BBQ tour.
