Outbreak Sickens Marine Life + In-Flight Scare + Brush Fire: SoCal In Brief – Patch

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — We’ve rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend to prepare you for the week ahead.
But before we jump into Southern California’s top stories, residents should expect unseasonably warm weather this week, according to the National Weather Service.
“Warm weather will continue through the middle of the week, with temperatures reaching 10-20 degrees above normal by Wednesday,” NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Monday. “Santa Ana winds make an appearance by Wednesday, increasing in strength on Thursday. Areas of low pressure will move into the region by Friday into early next week, bringing a cooler weather pattern with increased chances for light precipitation.”
In other news, wildlife officials believe a domoic acid outbreak has sickened California sea lions; an Australia-bound Delta flight was re-routed back to a Southern California airport shortly after takeoff; and the U.S. Coast Guard continues to conduct deportation flights between California and Texas.
Plus, the state will soon launch a new program that aims to give the public a greater voice in government, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced over the weekend. “Engaged California” is designed to help the public influence and inform government actions such as the ongoing Los Angeles firestorm rebuilding and recovery, the governor’s office said.
