The Jersey Shore has been named one of the best places to visit in September by Travel + Leisure, praised for its more than 90 miles of Atlantic Ocean beaches, historic charm, and lively entertainment scene.
As the summer crowds recede, travelers can still enjoy warm weather and ocean waves along the coast. Visitors flock to Atlantic City’s iconic Boardwalk and Steel Pier amusement park, with its mix of classic rides, restaurants, and live performances. For nightlife, casinos, clubs, concerts and restaurants remain major draws.
September also brings special events, including the Wildwoods’ Thunder Over the Waves Airshow, scheduled for Sept. 5-6, featuring military jets, vintage aircraft, stunt pilots and parachute teams. Wildwood’s beaches and 2-mile boardwalk offer live music, amusement rides and a nod to the town’s rock ’n’ roll history.
Farther south, Cape May continues to charm with nearly 600 preserved Victorian-era buildings, making it one of the country’s oldest resort destinations.
Travel + Leisure recommends Ocean Casino Resort, Borgata Hotel Casino and Caesar’s Atlantic City for those seeking luxury stays in Atlantic City. Asbury Ocean Club is a top choice in Asbury Park, while Cape May offers The Virginia Hotel, an adults-only boutique, and Congress Hall, America’s oldest seaside resort. For a quieter stay, the boutique James Bradley in Bradley Beach sits just a block from the boardwalk.
The magazine also highlighted several other U.S. destinations ideal for September travel, including Sacramento, California; Finger Lakes, New York; Telluride, Colorado; Greenville, South Carolina; Frankenmuth, Michigan; San Antonio, Texas; Florida’s Highway 30A; Napa Valley, California; and Asheville, North Carolina.
