Argentine President Javier Milei will visit the United States for the eleventh time since the start of his administration. Although he was initially expected to attend former girlfriend Fátima Florez’s impersonation show in Las Vegas, he will skip Sin City and fly to Los Angeles. Herald sister publication Ámbito is reporting that he will be meeting businesspeople, but his agenda is yet to be formally confirmed.
The visit comes at a complex time for the government. In addition to the bribery accusations against his sister, Presidency Secretary Karina Milei, and several public officials, the Buenos Aires province campaign is in its final stage before Sunday’s local elections.
The president is expected to travel on Wednesday night after the closing campaign event of his party, La Libertad Avanza (LLA), and be back in Argentina for the actual election, a crucial moment for the government.
Milei’s trip was confirmed to the Herald by the presidential press team. A source close to Vice President Victoria Villarruel — who should take over the reins of the country while Milei is abroad — said that her team has not been informed of any trip so far.
According to Ámbito, Milei will have meetings between Friday and Saturday. He will be accompanied by Economy Minister Luis Caputo and Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein.
A possible Milei trip to Las Vegas first began circulating after a flyer surfaced online promoting Fátima Florez’s show “SuperStar” at the Sahara hotel in Las Vegas. She will be performing on Friday — the day Milei was expected to attend — and Saturday. “Milei will be there!” the flyer stated. Florez has since said she had not authorized that flyer, although last month she had said Milei would be present at her show.
The presidential communications team had confirmed to the Herald earlier on Tuesday that Milei would be in Las Vegas on Friday and that there were “still” no other commitments for the rest of the trip. Local media had reported that he was also to meet people from the hotel industry in Vegas.
Milei and Florez started dating around July 2023, when the now president was in the middle of his presidential campaign, and broke up in April 2024. Shortly after, Milei started dating TV presenter and former vedette Yuyito González. That relationship ended in April 2025.
Opposition leaders from all over the political spectrum took to social media to question Milei’s trip in the middle of a highly delicate moment for the government amid the bribery accusations. While Coalición Cívica deputy Maximiliano Ferraro accused him of taking a trip with taxpayers’s money, Kirchnerist Quilmes Mayor Mayra Mendoza railed against him, calling him a “clown and corrupt.”
Argentina’s judiciary has forbidden the publication of leaked audio recordings of Karina Milei, meaning they cannot currently legally be reported in the country. The Buenos Aires Herald rejects this prior censorship of material that is in the public interest as an attack on press freedom.
