Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan is bracing for a snowy Valentine’s Day as a winter storm is set to bring heavy snow and dangerous cold. Travelers and residents should prepare for hazardous conditions throughout the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin early Friday and intensify throughout the day, with 3-5 inches expected by nightfall. Wind chills could drop as low as -8°F, creating icy road conditions on I-75 and surrounding highways. Visibility may be reduced due to blowing snow, making travel treacherous.
Saturday will bring additional snowfall, with another 2-3 inches possible. Snow showers are likely to continue into Sunday, keeping roads slick and travel conditions challenging. Temperatures will remain frigid, with highs struggling to reach the upper teens and lows dipping near zero.
Drivers should check road conditions before heading out and allow extra travel time. Those celebrating Valentine’s Day should prepare for snow-covered roads and bundle up for outdoor plans.
The cold and snow will persist into early next week, with lingering snow showers through Tuesday. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and take precautions for safe travel.
