Metro service changes and DC road closures for Inauguration Day – NBC4 Washington

Anyone driving, riding the Metro or taking the bus in Washington, D.C., on Inauguration Day can expect changes and plenty of closures. And those changes have changed again, following the announcement that inauguration would be held indoors and the traditional parade along Pennsylvania Avenue would be swapped for a viewing event at Capital One Arena due to the extreme cold.
Here’s everything we know about getting around in D.C. on Monday — including what travelers can expect at D.C.-area airports.

Metrorail had initially planned to open an hour early on Monday and run extra trains. However, it instead opened at its regular time of 5 a.m. and will operate on a normal weekday schedule. It will be open until midnight on Monday.
The Yellow Line is not running to Greenbelt on Monday as was previously planned.
The following stations are closed, with trains bypassing them, and will reopen Tuesday at 5 a.m.:
Some station entrances were set to be closed during certain hours at the following stations:
The Gallery Place-Chinatown station next to Capital One Arena is open only to passengers transferring lines. No entrances or exits will be open at that station Sunday or Monday.
The Smithsonian station was previously planned to be closed but is open. Farragut West and Metro Center previously had some planned station entrance closures, but all entrances are open.
“Inaugurations are typically high ridership events. Be prepared for long lines, full trains and buses, and the possibility of intermittent delays due to large crowds,” Metro said in a news release ahead of inauguration.

Buses on Monday are running on a Saturday supplemental schedule. Riders can check timetables for schedule information.
Detours are in effect through Tuesday due to the security perimeter and road closures. 
As of late Saturday afternoon, Metro said the following bus routes would be affected: 3F, 3Y, 7A, 10A, 11Y, 16A, 16C, 16E, 16Y, 22A, 38B, 31, 32, 33, 36, 42, 43, 52, 54, 59, 63, 64, 70, 74, 79, 80, 96, D4, D6, D8, G8, L2, N2, N4, N6, P6, S2, S9, X2, X8, and X9.
The Pentagon Transit Center is closed Monday. Buses are detouring to Pentagon City.
Subscription trips are canceled for Monday due to the inauguration, Metro said.
