When someone retires, a plethora of new opportunities lay before them, like the chance to pack up and move to a new city or state.
Retirees may decide to relocate for a number of reasons, such as finances, lifestyle, family or simply to live somewhere they’ve always dreamed of.
In order to help retirees find a city where there’s a tax advantages, a mild climate and easy access to healthcare, Travel + Leisure created a list of the best places to retire to in the Southeastern U.S.
Alexandria, Louisiana a top city to retire by Travel + Leisure
Alexandria, found within Rapides Parish, is Louisiana’s ninth largest city and has been deemed a “small Southern city with big-city amenities,” according to Travel + Leisure.
Regarding amenities, the Alexandria International Airport is less than 10 miles away from the city and is served by Delta and American Airlines. There are also close to 500 nearby health care establishments and hospitals within Rapides Parish, says Travel + Leisure.
Alexandria, also referred to as the “heart of Louisiana,” may be far from the state’s coast, yet the city is close in proximity to the Red River and there are a number of lakes, marshes and swamps, where activities like canoeing, kayaking and birding are popular.
Additionally, multiple golf courses can be found throughout the city, as well as a zoological park and a Louisiana History Museum.
