As Longhorns basketball looks to build for the future, they are getting creative. On Tuesday, they traveled to Houston to visit Reese Alston. The talented point guard is one of the best prospects in his class and is in high demand. With their visit, the Longhorns have made their interest in one of the best recruits from the state clear.
While the Longhorns hope to add Alston to the mix, they are facing competition. He has also received offers from Arizona State, Florida State, Houston, Illinois, and Manhattan. That list could grow the longer Alston stays on the market.
Currently, the Second Baptist High star is ranked as the sixth-best point guard and the 24th-best player in the 2027 class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the third-best player from Texas. That is partly why he has drawn interest from some of the top programs in the country.
If Texas can land Alston, their 2027 class would get a significant boost. After a disappointing 2024-2025 campaign, Sean Miller is looking to turn the program around. That starts with developing a deep pipeline of talent and winning recruiting battles. That is partly why Miller has been connected to some of the top recruits on the board.
Although Alston is one of the Longhorns’ top recruits, they have been busy on the recruiting trail. They have also shown interest in four-star prospects Ryan Hampton, Dawson Battie, Beckham Black, Howard Williams, and Javon Bardwell. Landing any of those players would give Texas a bright future.
With no commitment set, the Longhorns have plenty of time to make their best pitch. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks, now that the Longhorns have gone out of their way to connect with Alston.
