Motorists are facing up to long delays on some busy roads around North Staffordshire today. Ongoing roadworks have triggered long queues around the city and the Moorlands as various projects continue.
As reported by StokeonTrentLive there are three-way lights on Leek Road through Endon, which have seen tailbacks all around the village. Broadband works are currently being carried out on the A53 between its junctions with Station Road and The Meadows.
It has triggered long queues on not just Leek Road but also on Clay Lake and Hillswood Drive – where yesterday motorists reported being stuck on the residential road for around 15 minutes. In the city and motorists have been bemoaning gridlock around Middleport and Burslem.
That comes as part of Woodbank Street – by the junction with Bournes Bank has been shut off. The closure, which will last until March 21, means motorists coming up Newcastle Street can no longer turn right at the roundabout and head towards Waterloo Road. Instead they have to head into the middle of Burslem.
During yesterday's rush-hour and Newcastle Street through Middleport was at a virtual stand-still due to this ongoing closure.
It won't just be roadworks causing delays this morning – and we will be keeping tabs on any incidents on the road network in our dedicated blog below.
Broken down vehicles have meant lanes have been closed on the M6 and A50.
On the motorway and the closure is between Junction 18 and 19 on the northbound stretch. On the A50 and it's happened westbound between Uttoxeter and Blythe Bridge.
It's still busy in Burslem at the moment with traffic queuing along Market Place and also on Wedgwood Street.
Newcastle Street is however running fine again now. There are however queues on Woodbank Street and Furlong Lane.
Google is reporting there has been a crash on the D-road by Wolstanton Retail Park. It's happened on the southbound and queues are back to Talke.
It's having a knock-on effect though with Middleport and Longport gridlocked. Queues are all the way back to Westport Road and on Newcastle Street the queue is back to the roundabout in Burslem by Home Bargains.
This is the current scene in Endon.
Traffic is spiralling back up Clay Lake and on the A53 itself it's now back to Bunts Lane in one direction and towards Dunwood in the other.
The works should be completed later today.
Well it's certainly a busy start.
So starting with the A50 and the westbound heading into Blythe Bridge from Uttoxeter is now 'partially blocked'. Queues are past Cresswell and traffic barely moving.
Once drivers are through that they will be queuing from Lightwood to Sideway.
Over on the A500 and it's not much better. The worst part is currently between Talke and Etruria where those heading south are barely moving. Inrix is reporting a 'traffic problem' around the turn-off for Wolstanton Retail Park which could mean a collision or a breakdown.
For D-road drivers it does get better after Etruria and is then clear until the usual delays around Hanchurch.
Inrix is reporting a 'traffic problem' on the A50 westbound on the approach to Blythe Bridge from Uttoxeter.
There are queues on Hanley Road, Town Road and Chell Street. It's also busy on the A53 from the bridge in Sneyd Green down to Cobridge lights.
The closure in Burslem comes as works are ongoing to provide utilities to the 43-home estate being created in the shadows of the Three Sisters bottle kilns.
As reported by StokeonTrentLive social housing landlord Your Housing Group (YHG) is behind the £9.4 million development, off Bournes Bank after snapping up the two-acre site. Meanwhile works have also been carried out to repair and restore the three iconic bottle kilns.
The closure prevents motorsts from going 'along Woodbank Street at the junction of Cross Hill entering onto Bournes Bank.' In approving the road closure, Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: "The order is to allow for the completion of a gas connection to the new development and will come into operation on March 10 to March 21 or until theworks it is proposed to carry out are completed, whichever is the earlier.
"Pedestrian facilities will be be maintained throughout the period of the closure as far aspossible. Access to properties will be maintained as far as possible. Access for emergency vehicles will not be maintained as far as possible."
