The Las Vegas Aces travel to Los Angeles tonight to face the WNBA’s hottest team, the Los Angeles Sparks, at 10 pm ET.
The Aces have lost 2-of-3 on this four-game road trip, but defeated the Dallas Wings on Sunday, 106-80.
Jackie Young made five three-pointers and scored a team-high 24 points to go with eight assists for Las Vegas. Kierstan Bell had 19 points, A’ja Wilson contributed 14 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, and Jewell Loyd tallied 20 points as the Aces, now 13-13 and 6-9 on the road, made a season-high 15 three-point shots as a team.
Las Vegas faces a Los Angeles team that has turned around its season with its current five-game win streak. At 11-14, the Sparks have already surpassed last season’s win total. Rickea Jackson had a team-high 24 points and scored the winning layup at the buzzer as the team knocked off the defending WNBA champion New York Liberty Saturday on the road, 101-99.
Kelsey Plum had 20 points and eight assists, Azura Stevens added 13 points and 11 rebounds and Dearica Hamby chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The victory concluded a 3-0 road trip.
Two of the league’s leading scorers match up as Wilson, second in the league in scoring (21.6 ppg) and rebounding (9.1 rpg) takes the court against Plum, who is fourth in scoring (20.1 ppg) and fifth in assists (5.9 apg).
This is the third of five meetings between the two teams this season. Wilson had 35 points, 13 rebounds and six assists to pace the Aces in a 96-81 victory at home in May. Jackson went for 30 points and seven rebounds as the Sparks took the last matchup, also in Las Vegas, 97-89, last month.
Will Los Angeles continue the WNBA’s longest win streak? Can the Aces get back above .500?
Read below for our experts’ predictions on tonight’s contest.
The Sparks have all the momentum in the world, but they are also playing at home this evening. Los Angeles is the only team in the league that has a winning road record (8-6) and losing record at home (3-8).
However, the Sparks have won two straight at Crypto.com Arena. They’ve also won six of their last seven contests against the Aces. And, the team is getting a bump in momentum this evening with the return of second-year forward Cameron Brink. The former Stanford standout and 2024 WNBA No. 2 overall pick averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 15 games as a rookie last year before tearing her left ACL.
It will be Brink’s first game in 13 months, and her minutes will most likely be limited, but her rim protection skills are well-known, and a team playing off some good vibes right now will get even more at home.
Look for the Sparks to cover the 3-point spread as home underdogs.
This is a high total, but these two teams easily cleared the totals in their first two meetings. In fact, they’ve played to the over five of the last six times they’ve played each other. Los Angeles is averaging over 90 points in its last 10 games, and is allowing 87.3 points, both during that stretch of games and on the season, second worst in the league.
Las Vegas is averaging 92.5 points against Los Angeles, while the Sparks are averaging 89 points against the Aces. Look for those numbers to continue this evening as the teams play to the over for the third time this year.
Young has played lights out against the Sparks this season, averaging 30 points a game, including a season-high 34 the last time these two met.
She’s averaging 17.8 points since the All-Star break and should continue that run here.
