Lake Effect Snow Hits Buffalo, NY: Travel Hazards and Power Outages Possible Along Niagara County Roads – Country Herald

Buffalo, NY – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Buffalo and surrounding areas, with lake effect snow and gusty winds forecasted through Friday morning. The National Weather Service warns of reduced visibility and dangerous travel conditions, especially near the I-90 corridor and other key roadways.
According to the National Weather Service, additional snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected, with winds gusting as high as 50 mph. These conditions will persist through today and tonight, creating drifting snow and significantly reducing visibility. Motorists are urged to use caution, especially during the morning and evening commutes. Blowing snow could also cause isolated power outages as tree branches come down.

Tonight, temperatures will drop to 19°F with northwest winds reaching 17 mph. Snow showers will taper off overnight, leaving icy conditions on untreated roads. Friday will see a slight chance of snow showers with a high of 28°F and breezy conditions, as winds continue at 21 mph.
Looking ahead, Saturday brings a higher chance of snow showers, mainly after noon, with a high near 34°F. Gusty southwest winds could create additional blowing snow hazards. Sunday offers some respite with mostly cloudy skies and milder temperatures reaching 44°F. Showers are likely to return late Sunday into Monday.
Residents should monitor local weather updates and prepare for hazardous conditions. Officials advise keeping emergency kits in vehicles and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak snowfall.
