This year, Labour Day offers a perfect mid-spring travel break for Romanians, with May 1st and 2nd falling on a Thursday and Friday, creating a potentially extended long weekend. Kiwi.com, a leading travel-tech company, reveals how Romanians are spending this holiday and the trends are as dynamic as ever.
Based on Kiwi.com bookings made before April 14th, 2025, Romanians are embracing the May long weekend, though travel habits have slightly shifted from last year. On average, they’re choosing shorter trips this year: stays average 6.5 days compared to 7.7 in 2024.
Top destinations remain largely familiar, with Milan (+73%), Paris (+67%), Rome, London, and Chișinău leading the list. However, new city break favourites are quickly gaining ground: Málaga saw a 129% increase in bookings, Thessaloniki 79%, Dublin 318%, and Naples 35%. Berlin and Copenhagen also recorded impressive rises.
When it comes to countries, France (up 58%) and Greece (up 73%) dominate the leaderboard. Yet, the real story lies in the emerging destinations: bookings to the Philippines skyrocketed by 400%, Ireland by 327%, and Denmark by 90%, as Romanians look beyond traditional springtime getaways.
Travel days are concentrated around April 30th, May 1st and April 29th, suggesting that many are making the most of the Labour Day holiday season.
Ticket prices this year saw a slight decrease compared to 2024. The average price paid for flights over Labour Day was €150.65, down by 12%. Short-haul tickets averaged €121.73, medium-haul €157.26, and long-haul €442.43. Long-haul bookings notably increased in price (+17%), while medium-haul trips dropped (-19%).
Booking and return habits also evolved this year. 55% of travelers opted for quick 0–3 day trips, 28% planned 4–6 day stays, while only 11% extended their trips to 7–10 days. The booking window stayed fairly consistent, at around 53 days in advance.
Interestingly enough, there’s a shift in who is traveling more in 2025: while solo trips still made up the largest share (49%), the proportion of couples (30%), families (13%), and groups (8%) grew compared to last year.
As the spring travel season picks up, Romanians continue to blend tradition with adventure, combining classic city breaks with fresh, exciting destinations, all while adjusting trip lengths and travel companions to match their lifestyles.
