TOKYO — Foreign visitors accounted for one in two overnight stays in Tokyo last year, Japanese government data shows, continuing a rise that has driven up prices and left many domestic business travelers struggling to find accommodations.
International guests made up 52% of stays in Tokyo, 50% in Kyoto and 45% in Osaka, all far higher than the 25% average nationwide, the Japan Tourism Agency reports. The Tokyo figure has jumped from 37% in 2019.
