There have been a number of high-profile airline incidents in the last several weeks, most notably the recent case of a Delta Airlines jet flipping upside down while landing at Toronto Pearson Airport. That’s led to concerns about how safe it really is to fly.
iHeartMedia Aviation expert Jay Ratliff says that despite the recent high-profile incidents, air travel is still statistically one of the safest ways to travel. He said, "In the course of a week, you’ll have 14, 15, 16, 18, 20 million people fly. The numbers are still there."
Ratliff also added that these incidents will lead to detailed investigations, which in turn will make the aviation industry safer. He said, "You’re going to be able to have the cockpit voice recorder; you’ve got a lot of different videos and different things that are going to aid the investigators, and they’ll find out exactly what took place."
He went on to reiterate that the technology and the crews that we have here in the United States are, by far, the best in the world, saying, "I have total confidence in aviation, and, personally speaking, I have no problem at all flying."
If you are nervous about flying, Ratliff says many carriers are offering options for passengers to reschedule their flights to a later date when they feel more confident.
Ratliff also said that for the time being, it’s best to let the investigations play out, and he thinks that anyone trying to assign blame for these incidents right now is jumping the gun.
