After sweeping the Iowa Heartlanders on the road last week, the Komets added a former Heartlander forward to their roster.
The Komets have signed Nico Blachman to a contract, the team announced Sunday. Blachman spent the last two seasons with the Heartlanders as their resident enforcer, racking up 290 penalty minutes in 58 games.
Last season was Blachman’s most prolific as a scorer, finishing with 10 points on five goals and five assists. The 27-year-old was released by the Florida Everblades, the Komets’ next opponent, on Oct. 21 after signing with the team for the second time in his career.
The signing helps the Komets through an injury-plagued start to their season, with six players on the 14-Day IL and forward Austin Magera being added to the 3-Day IL on Saturday before the Komets’ third-straight win over the Heartlanders.
Fort Wayne travels to the Hertz Arena in Estero, Florida, to open a three-game road trip against the Everblades at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
