LARAMIE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation advises motorists to expect travel impacts Wednesday, July 23, as a slow-moving superload carrying a transformer moves from Laramie to Medicine Bow.
The superload will depart the Laramie railyard at around 6 a.m. Wednesday for a one-day haul to Medicine Bow. Motorists should anticipate delays between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. along Cedar Street and Wyoming Highway 130/Snowy Range Road as the transport heads toward Interstate 80.
The transport will then affect westbound Interstate 80 traffic from Laramie at milepost 311 until it exits the interstate at Arlington, Exit 272. WYDOT expects this 39-mile section of the haul to occur between 9 a.m. and noon.
After leaving the interstate, the superload will use Wyoming Highway 13 to Rock River, then U.S. Highway 30/287 to Medicine Bow.
The transformer transport measures 17 feet 3 inches tall, 26 feet wide, and 385 feet long, weighing 1,484,000 pounds. Due to its size, the superload will occupy both lanes of travel. To prevent damage to the interstate, the transport will move at 25 to 30 mph, reducing speed to 10 mph over bridges.
Motorists should prepare for stoppages and travel delays and adjust their plans accordingly.
WYDOT anticipates the transport will return to the Laramie railyard in the coming weeks. One additional transformer is scheduled for transport this summer, with specific details to be announced later.
