Miami cruise planning

Where should you stay before a PortMiami cruise?

Choose your hotel area based on your arrival airport, cruise-day transportation and the kind of Miami stay you want.

Travel Guides › Miami Cruise Port Hotels: Planning Guide

A pre-cruise hotel can make embarkation morning calmer, but “near the cruise port” does not mean the same thing for every traveler. Start with three questions: which airport are you using, what time do you arrive, and what do you want to do before the cruise?

Downtown and Brickell

Downtown Miami and Brickell are commonly considered because they keep you near central Miami and relatively close to PortMiami compared with many farther-out areas. They can also make sense if your priority is a city stay rather than a beach stay.

Miami Beach

Miami Beach can be appealing if the beach experience matters more than being as close as possible to the port. Build extra transportation time into your cruise-day plan and verify the current route with your hotel or transportation provider.

MIA or FLL?

MIA is Miami International Airport. FLL is Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Either may appear in South Florida flight searches, so compare airfare together with the cost and convenience of getting from the airport to your hotel and then to the cruise terminal.

  • Confirm the exact cruise terminal and embarkation instructions with the cruise line.
  • Ask the hotel directly about any shuttle instead of assuming one is included.
  • Keep identification, medication and cruise documents in a day bag you control.
  • Do not rely on a tight same-day arrival if a delay would create unacceptable risk for you.
