Great Smoky Mountains National Park to close lanes on these popular roads during June – Knoxville News Sentinel

Drivers traveling through Great Smoky Mountains National Park should prepare for lane closures and traffic delays during June.
Maintenance along popular roads, including the Spur, will require temporary single-lane closures and partial road closures beginning June 3, the National Park Service announced.
From June 3 to June 12, crews will complete roadside work along the Spur and Little River Road. Maintenance includes mowing and pruning, ditch and culvert cleaning, shoulder drop off repair and hazard tree mitigation.
The temporary closures allow park staff to safely and efficiently complete the maintenance work.
Popular sites including Elkmont, Metcalf Bottoms and Cades Cove will remain accessible during the closures but might require detours. Visitors should plan for increased travel time.
Motor homes, buses and vans longer than 25 feet and any passenger vehicles towing a trailer are prohibited on Wear Cove Gap Road from the park boundary to the Metcalf Bottoms bridge, the park service noted.
The park implemented similar closures on Little River Road for the first time last year to complete deferred road maintenance.
Crews mowed and string trimmed 24 miles along roadsides, cleaned nearly nine miles of roadside ditches, repaired 27 damaged road areas and side armed 12 miles of roadside banks.
