FIRST ALERT: Light wintry showers before storm causes hazardous travel – WLUC

NWS alerts in effect HERE.
A Northern Plains system brushes Upper Michigan with mainly light snow showers and the wintry mix early this week — before a strong system leeside of the Colorado Rockies approaches the U.P. and Western Great Lakes region. As this projected storm track holds, the system can spread wet snow and the wintry mix spread across the U.P. overnight Tuesday. The full transition to snow occurs towards Wednesday night as colder air filters in. Snowfall totals 10″ or more are possible in high terrain in the Western and Central U.P. — 5″ or less in areas closer to the Lake Michigan shore. Gale-force winds also pick up midweek in the U.P. — turbulent driving conditions, occasionally poor visibility, slippery surfaces all potential travel hazards until precipitation and wind subside later Thursday.
