Delhi Braces For A Week Of Extreme Weather As IMD Issues Urgent Yellow Alert For Intense Rain, Storms, And Disruptions Across The City And IGI Airport Warns Of Flight Delays – Travel And Tour World

Delhi is preparing for a week of intense weather, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. This adverse weather is due to a combination of a cyclonic circulation over western Rajasthan and an active monsoon trough extending from Jammu to the Bay of Bengal, which is causing persistent rain across the region. The downpours are expected to continue throughout the week, bringing much-needed relief from the heat but also potentially leading to disruptions at IGI Airport, with flight delays anticipated due to the severe weather.
Delhi has been experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall, providing a much-needed break from the intense heat that has been gripping the city. As the clouds rolled in, the rain brought a welcome break, soothing both locals and visitors from the intense heat. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue, prompting the issuance of a yellow alert in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab for heavy downpours in the coming days.

The rainfall arrived just in time, as parts of Delhi were particularly affected by the scorching temperatures over the past few weeks. On Monday, the city saw moderate to heavy showers that swept across various regions, bringing an end to the intense heatwave. The rains also turned the city’s skyline a dull grey, signaling a break in the hot and dry conditions. The IMD has further predicted that light to moderate rainfall will continue in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad throughout the week, offering some relief to the residents in these areas.
The IMD has reported that Tuesday’s minimum temperature in Delhi stood at 26 degrees Celsius. This marked a drop in temperature, providing a reprieve from the oppressive heat of the past week. The forecast indicates overcast skies, with rain and thunderstorms expected to persist throughout the day. Despite the rain, the maximum temperature is expected to remain around 35 degrees Celsius, a sign that the heat will not be entirely absent but will be tempered by the intermittent rainfall.

The reason behind the ongoing wet weather is linked to a cyclonic circulation located over western Rajasthan and nearby regions of Pakistan. This system, combined with an active monsoon trough that stretches from Jammu to the Bay of Bengal, is influencing weather patterns in the region. As a result, Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are experiencing prolonged periods of rainfall, a trend that will continue through the week.
The IMD’s weather predictions suggest that light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and occasional lightning, will be seen across Delhi in the next couple of days. The forecast indicates that the intermittent showers will likely persist until July 27, with the weather remaining predominantly overcast throughout the week. This will further reduce the intensity of the summer heat and provide more relief to the residents of Delhi and neighboring areas.
As a result of the severe weather, the IMD has placed Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab under a yellow alert. The alert highlights the possibility of heavy rainfall in these areas, urging residents to remain cautious and stay updated on weather developments. This alert comes as a reminder for the public to remain prepared for possible disruptions and take necessary precautions.
Given the weather conditions, Delhi Airport authorities have issued a travel advisory for passengers. The advisory stated that despite the inclement weather forecast, flight operations at the airport continue as usual, and there are no significant disruptions to air traffic at the moment. However, passengers are encouraged to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight information and updates, as weather conditions may change unexpectedly.
Airlines have also been monitoring the weather closely. SpiceJet, in particular, has issued a statement advising travelers to be prepared for possible delays due to the adverse weather. The airline recommended passengers check the flight status on their website for real-time updates, as there may be disruptions to both arrivals and departures at Delhi Airport. The airline has highlighted that the ongoing heavy rain may lead to some flight delays, urging passengers to plan accordingly.
Overall, the rains in Delhi have provided much-needed relief from the intense heat, but travelers are advised to stay informed about the evolving weather conditions. With the yellow alert in place for heavy rainfall, it’s crucial for residents and visitors to be aware of potential disruptions and take necessary precautions. Passengers flying in and out of Delhi are particularly advised to monitor flight statuses regularly to avoid any inconvenience caused by weather-related delays.
