As Hurricane Melissa intensifies over the Caribbean, Celebrity Beyond, a luxury cruise ship, has announced a major change to its planned itinerary for October 26, 2025. Originally scheduled to explore the Eastern Caribbean, Celebrity Beyond will now navigate a Western Caribbean route to steer clear of the rapidly strengthening storm.
Why the Change?
Hurricane Melissa, which escalated to a Category 2 storm on October 25, has prompted several cruise lines to adjust their sailings. The storm, with winds reaching 100 mph, is making its way toward Jamaica and is expected to strengthen further, potentially reaching Category 4 or 5 status. As a safety measure, Celebrity Beyond’s October 26 sailing from Miami, Florida, has shifted to avoid the storm’s projected path, which could bring severe weather conditions to the Eastern Caribbean.

In a notification sent to guests, Celebrity Cruises assured passengers that the safety of everyone onboard is the top priority, and while the change may cause some inconvenience, it was made to ensure safe travel away from the storm’s threat.
New Itinerary for Celebrity Beyond
For the October 26 sailing, the ship will depart Miami as planned but will visit different ports due to the shift in direction. Here’s the updated itinerary for the 7-night cruise:
- Sunday, October 26: Depart from Miami, Florida
- Monday, October 27: Day at sea
- Tuesday, October 28: Costa Maya, Mexico (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- Wednesday, October 29: Belize (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
- Thursday, October 30: Roatan, Honduras (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- Friday, October 31: Day at sea
- Saturday, November 1: Day at sea
- Sunday, November 2: Return to Miami
This route change replaces the originally scheduled visits to Puerto Plata, St. Thomas, and St. Kitts. While some guests may feel disappointed, the new destinations offer their own unique charm, including beautiful beaches, rich culture, and unforgettable experiences.
Refunds and Shore Excursions
For those who had pre-paid shore excursions for the cancelled stops, Celebrity Cruises is automatically issuing refunds and offering onboard credit for any inconvenience caused. The cruise line is committed to ensuring that guests are reimbursed for any affected services, and any remaining amounts will be refunded to the card on file after the trip concludes.

Other Cruise Lines Also Adjusting Routes

Celebrity Beyond is not the only ship that has altered its course due to Hurricane Melissa. Other vessels, such as the Icon of the Seas and Disney Treasure, have also switched from Eastern Caribbean to Western Caribbean itineraries. These ships are now heading toward ports like Cozumel and Roatan to avoid the worst of the storm’s impact. Despite the change, Icon of the Seas and Disney Treasure will still make stops at Perfect Day at CocoCay and Castaway Cay, respectively, maintaining some of their planned experiences.
Several other ships, including Disney Wish and Margaritaville at Sea Islander, are also adjusting their routes to stay out of Hurricane Melissa’s destructive path.
Hurricane Melissa’s Path and Expected Impact
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that Hurricane Melissa is currently 130 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, and is moving slowly westward at just 3 miles per hour. This slow pace in warm Caribbean waters is expected to intensify the storm further.
Jamaica is bracing for heavy rains, with some areas possibly receiving up to 40 inches. This could lead to significant flooding and landslides, with hurricane conditions expected to affect the island by Sunday or Monday. On October 24, the Jamaican government declared a state of emergency, urging citizens and visitors to prepare for the storm’s arrival.
As Melissa continues its path through the Caribbean, its impact could also affect other regions, including the Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas. Travelers to these areas should stay informed and be prepared for possible disruptions in their travel plans.
Cruising in the Face of Storms: What Travelers Should Know
While cruises like Celebrity Beyond are working diligently to ensure the safety of passengers, travelers should always be prepared for the possibility of itinerary changes due to weather conditions. Cruise lines often offer alternative ports of call and refund options for disrupted shore excursions, ensuring that passengers still get the most out of their trip, even when weather conditions force changes.
For travelers planning upcoming cruises, it’s advisable to monitor weather updates, particularly during hurricane season, which runs from June to November. Knowing the storm’s potential impact can help cruise passengers adjust their expectations and remain flexible.
