The Canary Islands has informed UK tourists when its state of "pre-alert" will end. The Lanzarote and Tenerife group of islands, in the European Union, have explained how UK holidaymakers must exercise caution and stay vigilant amid huge coastal waves.
The Spanish Met Office (AEMET) is now forecasting mostly clear skies and cooler temperatures across the Canary Islands today, Sunday, with some cloud in inland areas of the mountainous islands during the afternoon on Sunday (February 16).
Its warning for strong waves and coastal chaos will last until around 5pm on Monday. Authorities advise caution for residents and visitors, particularly those near coastal areas, and urge the public to stay informed about weather updates. The pre-alert is expected to remain in place until conditions improve on Monday.

AEMET said, in Gran Canaria, cloudy intervals may appear in inland areas first thing, while in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, cloud cover is expected in the east and north of the islands, respectively, towards the end of the day on Sunday, as the weekend ends.
There could be a temperature dip, with lows of around 10C. At sea, variable winds (force 1 to 3) will strengthen from the north or northeast (force 4 to 6), leading to rougher sea conditions, with waves increasing from ripples to moderate swell. A
northwest swell of 2 to 3 metres is expected along the northern coasts of the archipelago, AEMET said. The coastal hazard warning is in effect for northern and western coasts of El Hierro, La Palma, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote.
Northern coasts of La Gomera, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria are also included. The Canarian Weekly reports that, as the archipelago faces lower temperatures and hazardous coastal conditions, residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution, particularly in affected coastal areas.
The last of the alerts lifts between 3:35pm – 4:45pm tomorrow.
