Canada issues new urgent travel advisory for the Philippines – Daily Hive Vancouver

The Government of Canada has issued a new travel advisory for the Philippines, warning travellers of a possible safety risk.
On Nov. 6, Canada published an update for its travel advice for the Philippines, and travellers are urged to “exercise a high degree of caution.” The advisory notes that a powerful typhoon is expected to hit the country.
“Tropical Storm Fung-Wong is expected to make landfall on Luzon as a typhoon on Nov. 10, 2025,” reads the statement. “The storm is likely to bring excessive rainfall and violent winds.”
The advisory warns of possible flash flooding and landslides as a result of the storm, which could severely disrupt access to essential services such as transportation, power distribution, water and food supply, telecommunications networks, as well as emergency services and medical care.
According to a bulletin issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the typhoon is moving westward and has maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the centre, and gustiness of up to 135 km/h.

“There is a high risk of life-threatening storm surge and related coastal flooding, especially in Northern Luzon and the east coast of Central and Southern Luzon,” reads the bulletin.
The new warning comes soon after the deadly Typhoon Kalmaegi, known locally as Typhoon Tino, which hit the Philippines on Nov. 3. According to The Philippine Daily Inquirer, the storm left at least 188 dead and 135 are still missing. The advisory states that affected regions still face significant disruptions to essential services.
The series of typhoons comes after nationwide protests across the Philippines in September over corruption in the country’s flood control projects.
Typhoon Kalmaegi also impacted Southeast Asian countries, triggering travel advisories for Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.
Currently, the risk level for the Philippines is marked as yellow, which, according to the Travel Advice and Advisories, means “there are reasons to be more careful in this area.”
Canadians travelling internationally can sign up for Registration of Canadians Abroad (ROCA). The free and confidential service notifies citizens outside the country of an emergency abroad or a personal emergency at home.
