8-year-old killed as portion of house collapses in Delhi’s Nangloi
An eight-year-old boy was killed while a 45-year-old man sustained injuries after a portion of a house collapsed in outer Delhi’s Nangloi on Monday morning, police said.
The incident occurred when a toilet constructed on the terrace of the one-storeyed house collapsed onto the verandah below, causing the ceiling to cave in, they said.
The deceased, Vansh, was the son of a daily wager from Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh, who lived in the house as a tenant. The other occupants of the house were safe, police said.
Donald Trump’s travel ban takes effect
US President Donald Trump’s new ban on travel to the United States by citizens from 12 mainly African and Middle Eastern countries took effect Monday amid rising tension over the president’s escalating campaign of immigration enforcement.
The new proclamation, which Trump signed last week, applies to citizens of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. It also imposes heightened restrictions on people from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela who are outside the U.S. and don’t hold a valid visa.
Raj Thackeray blames migrants for Mumbai train accident
On a day four commuters died and nine were injured after they fell off two overcrowded local trains, MNS president Raj Thackeray blamed the influx of migrants from other states to Mumbai for the “collapse” of the railway system.
“A flood of people coming to (Mumbai) from outside led to the collapse of the railway system. But everyone is busy campaigning for elections,” he told reporters in Pune.
“Accidents involving local trains happen every day. It’s not only about the railway system. All our cities are in a mess. There are no proper roads, and traffic snarls are a regular feature in several cities including Mumbai and Pune. A fire engine can’t reach in time if a blaze breaks out,” Thackeray said.
